How Can A Book Coach Help You Write Your Book?
The truth is, if you let me, I could spend all day long talking about book coaching. I could tell you about my experiences of coaching and being coached, the transformations I’ve played a role in and the amazing energy that develops between writer and coach which can be kind of magical.
There’s so much good stuff to share!
First up though, it is important for me to say that not all book coaches are the same, and I don’t mean that in a good coach/bad coach kind of way. What I mean is this: just as writers come in many different forms and approach their work in many different ways, so do book coaches. So for the purpose of this post, I’m mostly talking about me :) so here we go…
How can a book coach help me write my book?
I bet there are times when you wish you had somebody to talk to about your writing that actually understood what you were doing, someone who could offer up useful feedback and guidance that could help you finish your story.
A book coach can do that for you!
I also wouldn’t mind guessing there are times when you sit at your desk feeling frustrated, as though you know you have what it takes to finish your draft… if only someone would give you the steps you should follow to get there.
A book coach can do that for you too!
Then there’s the whole issue of knowing you want to get words on the page regularly, but for some inexplicable reason you keep prioritising EVERYTHING else before your writing. IE. washing the dog, tidying your pen collection, googling makeup tips (when you never wear makeup), watching cool dance moves on TikTok, etc. Nobody else knows whether you add 50 words or 5000 words to your draft this week, right?
A book coach will also help you with this!
How does it feel to have a book coach?
When a writer and book coach are a good fit, magic happens! As the writer, you will feel comfortable, supported and inspired to write. You will give writing greater priority in your life. You will write regularly and make good progress on your project. Your coach will be genuinely interested in your story, excited by your progress, and dedicated to helping you reach your goals.
Having the right book coach feels fantastic - this is why I am selective about who I work with, and I believe that writers should be too.
Is a book coach the same as an editor?
A book coach can provide editorial feedback on your story as you write it, meaning you will learn new skills and get better at writing throughout your work-in-progress. More than that though, as your book coach I am interested in nurturing the writer as well as the writing. If overwhelm or self-doubt show up (which they likely will at some point) we can handle it together. I am that person in your corner with strategies and advice to support, guide and your cheer you on as your write. And you bet I will hold you accountable too!
Okay Jenny, my mission is to write a novel, what’s your mission?
When I am your book coach it is my mission to:
- help you become a better writer
- guide you towards completing your project (no matter where we start)
- support you, the writer, as well as the writing process
- hold you accountable
- encourage and inspire you
I am committed to positive vibes and supportive relationships that bring out the best in everyone. So, my side-mission (is side-mission even a thing?) is to bring a sense of joy to your writing life too. Writing can be a quiet and lonely pursuit, but it doesn’t have to be. Why not add in some fun?
What sort of writers do you coach?
I work with writers throughout the writing process, and my absolute favourite thing is to help writers who are at the very start of a writing project. I love helping aspiring authors to get started with a blueprint for their book that makes writing their first draft feel exciting and achievable.
When you’re just starting out, it can be hard to translate the vision for your book that lives in your head into words on a page. By working through key questions and processes, together we will clarify your ideas which will in turn allow you to tell the story you truly want to tell.
I especially like to work with writers of contemporary fiction, women’s fiction and romance.
Note: sci-fi, fantasy, political and erotica are not my thing, so you’d be best to find a coach other than me for these. I can point you in the right direction to find another coach if you need a hand finding somebody.
I’m interested in the idea of a coach but still not sure. How can I find out more?
If you have questions about book coaching and want to find out more, shoot me a message or DM on Instagram. I’d also love us to set up a free, no obligation, 30-minute discovery call where we can cover off all your questions and explore ways I might be able to help you with your writing.
You can also find out more about me and what I do via all the pages on this website, plus Instagram and Facebook too.
